Switching from WordPress or Wix

4 min read · Lesson 4 of 4

Already have a site on WordPress, Wix or Squarespace? You don't have to start over. Ember can use your current site as a starting point.

Steps

  1. Open Ember and start a new project.
  2. Paste your current website address and say: "Make my new site from this one. Keep my words and photos."
  3. Ember reads your public pages and builds a fresh version. Check each page in the preview.
  4. Fix anything by asking, like "Add my new hours", or tap the part of the page and say what to change.
  5. Selling things? Set up your store in OpenSign, then ask Ember to design how it looks.
  6. When you're happy, publish. To use your own domain, follow the copy-and-paste steps Ember shows you.
  7. Keep your old site running until the new one is live on your domain. Then cancel the old plan.

Good to know

  • Ember copies your own content. Only use words and photos you own.
  • Things like contact forms and booking links may need a quick check after the move.
  • Your Google ranking can wobble for a few weeks after any move. The weekly Google check-up helps it settle.
  • Your site stays yours. You can download its files anytime.
